James Madison And Federalist 45 On States Rights

Of utmost importance in the restoration of the Constitutional Republic, We the People need to address the emphasis given to “the several states” by the founders regarding the rights of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness;” they cannot, nor should they ever be, ignored. In Federalist 45 James Madison clearly enunciated the separation between Federal and State responsibilities. While there were the obvious national attentions to international treaties/relations, national security, war, peace, etc., the very real and basic overrides went directly to We the People. Madison makes it absolutely clear that the Constitution was written by the founders with the purpose of creating a federal Government with few but necessary powers relative to those of the States. The following verbatim sentences from Madison’s Federalist paper prove this point.

james_madisonThe powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the Federal Government, are few and defined.  Those which are to remain in the State Governments are numerous and indefinite.  The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace. Negotiation, and foreign commerce, with which last the power of taxation will for the most part be connected.  The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects, which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties and properties of the people; and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State.

POLITICS ‘HAVE REACHED CIVIL WAR LEVELS’… was the headline on the Drudge Report the other day. It linked to a story in National Journal quoting Sen. Tom Harkin as saying, “We are at one of the most dangerous points in our history.” It quoted Sen. Ted Cruz likening the Republican moderates to the appeasers at Munich. Another article quoted an aide to President Obama as comparing Republicans to “terrorists, kidnappers, arsonists…” Yet another quoted the Senate’s chaplain as saying “Lord, deliver us from governing by crisis.” If that’s what the Lord is going to do, I say, let Him read Mark Levin’s new book, The Liberty Amendments. It is a brilliant compendium of changes Levin proposes for improving the Constitution. They range from amendments establishing term limits for members of Congress and the Supreme Court, to amendments prohibiting the federal government from spending more in a year than it receives in tax revenue. It includes an amendment to restore to state legislatures the authority to choose senators—and to bestow the additional authority to recall wayward solons. Continues …

It has been said a number of times in recent years that the U.S.  is undergoing a period of flux, a state of rapid churning on the political-social level with any number of contradictory trends appearing and vanishing while few permanent changes are evident.  After 2013, this may no longer be the case.  Events of this past summer indicate that a new political paradigm is settling in — one in no way friendly toward American life as we now understand it. This new system was outlined by Dr.  Angelo Codevilla in his 2010 book, The Ruling Class. Codevilla saw clear signs of the formation of a ruling elite in the U.S., a convergence of interests among both “liberal” and “conservative” politicians, along with industrialists, academics, and members of the entertainment and media worlds.  It has become expedient for these blocs to combine their efforts in order to protect and extend their own interests, even in defiance of the American political system and secular creed as it has always existed.  Opposing this effort is the “country class,” the vast mass of Americans, essentially the middle class (to be American is, in a real sense, to be middle class), who have invested their lives in the traditional state of the country and expect to see it remain as it is. At the prayer breakfast meeting prior to Obama’s second inauguration on January 21, 2013, Jonathan Cahn was invited to deliver the keynote address, the entire content of which was focused upon the United States getting back in step with the Godly principles upon which the Founding Fathers brought forth the Constitutional Republic. Classical Schools The Solution To America’s Education Crisis

The classical school model practiced today owes largely to Dorothy Sayers, who promoted in the early twentieth century the Greco-Roman style of pedagogy. This involves teaching the “trivium” to students, composed of the trinity of grammar, logic, and rhetoric. I have seen this firsthand at the stellar Highlands Latin School in my city, Louisville, Kentucky. At HLS, teachers lead students—including my child—through their Latin declensions before lunch and take them on nature walks in the afternoon. Children read Aristotle on logic in one period, then listen to a Bach symphony the next (differentiating it from Mozart). It’s a marvelous, right-and-left-brain model of education. It also produces fairly spectacular results, at least in this example: HLS is one of the top-testing schools in Kentucky, and with only a few classes graduated has sent students to places like Dartmouth, MIT, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, and Hillsdale.
