I have shared this with you many times before, but it bears repeating as often and as repetitiously as needs require it to be. It can never be too often repeated, that the time for fixing every essential right on a legal basis is while our rulers are honest, and ourselves united. From the conclusion of this war for independence we shall be going downhill. It will not then be necessary to resort every moment to the people for support. They will be forgotten therefore, and their rights disregarded. They will forget themselves, but in the sole faculty of making money, and will never think of uniting to effect a due respect for their rights. The shackles therefore, which shall not be knocked off at the conclusion of this war, will remain on us long, will be made heavier and heavier, till our rights shall revive or expire in a convulsion.

Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., wasted no time in accusing the head of the IRS of lying to Congress, unloading a blistering barrage of accusations at a Monday night hearing.
“At a minimum, you did not tell the whole truth,” during previous testimony, Issa told IRS Commissioner John Koskinen, scornfully adding, “We are wondering what your word is worth.”
In his opening statement, Issa flatly told Koskinen he had given false testimony by promising to provide all emails of former IRS tax-exempt division chief Lois Lerner, while knowing two years of those emails were actually missing.
“You promised to produce documents,” he said. “You did not.”
“The committee requested all of Lois Lerner’s emails over a year ago,” said the chairman, noting the emails had been subpoenaed in August 2013 and again in February 2014. But, Issa accused, “You worked to cover up the fact they were missing and only came forward to fess up on a Friday afternoon after you had been caught red-handed.”
Issa acknowledged Koskinen did not “personally did not destroy the emails. But by your actions and your deception, you now own this scandal.”

REP. TREY GOWDY (R-SC): You have already said multiple times today that there was no evidence that you found of any criminal wrongdoing. I want you to tell me what criminal statutes you have evaluated.
JOHN KOSKINEN, IRS COMMISSIONER: I have not looked at any.
GOWDY: Well, how can you possibly tell our fellow citizens that there’s not criminal wrongdoing if you don’t even know what statutes to look at?
KOSKINEN: I have seen no evidence that anyone —
GOWDY: Well, how would you know what elements of the crime existed? You don’t even know what statutes are in play. I’m going to ask you again. What statutes have you evaluated?
KOSKINEN: I think you can rely on common sense that nothing I have seen —
GOWDY: Common sense. Instead on the criminal code, you want to rely on common sense? No, Mr. Commissioner, you can shake your head all you want to, Commissioner. You have said today that there is no evidence of criminal wrongdoing and I am asking you what criminal statutes you have reviewed to reach that conclusion?
KOSKINEN: I reviewed no criminal statutes.
The enemy within must be put down.
REP. JIM JORDAN (R-OH): Last round. I just ask you, when did you learn? You said sometime in April. I want to focus on when you did officially learn according to your definition. The Chairman asked you who told you this information, you can’t remember?
JOHN KOSKINEN, IRS COMMISSIONER: I do not remember.
REP. JORDAN: Did someone say in person? Did someone send you an e-mail? How did you get the information?
KOSKINEN: I do not recall. I do not get e-mails on these subjects, so I am sure it was someone in person.
JORDAN: Someone in person? This has been a major news story for the last 13 months and you don’t remember who came up to you and said, ‘Hey, boss, we lost Lois Lerner’s e-mails.’ You don’t remember anything about that situation?
KOSKINEN: I remember being told in April.
JORDAN: You don’t remember who told you?
KOSKINEN: I do not recall who told me.
JORDAN: For something that has been a front-page story, you’d think it would have been significant to remember how it happened when they told you what the actual date was.
KOSKINEN: You have to remember I am running an agency with 90,000 people.
JORDAN: And this has been the biggest issue in front of your agency for the last year.
KOSKINEN: We were in the middle of filing season as all of this was going on.
The enemy within WILL be brought to justice.
