Charlie Gard and Britain’s NHS fix

En Garde in the bunker…

Take a gloomy look into the future of whatever Obamacare eventually morphs into or out of with the heartbreaking tale of 10-month-old Charlie Gard and his 30-ish parents.

“We wanted to give him a bath at home, we want to sit on the sofa with him, we want to put him in a cot he’s never slept in. We’re now being denied that,” said Charlie’s dad.

Not only has the European Union death panel denied the parents any options to treat their son, the parents have been denied a request to bring him home for his final time on earth; “he has to die in that hospital tomorrow; we’ve literally begged them to give us this weekend”, little Charlie’s mother said.

This story is very reminiscent of when Sean Hannity and Pat Toomey intervened on behalf of Sarah Murnaghan, the 10 year old who, back in 2013, desperately needed a lung transplant and the adult donor list had an eligibility threshold beginning with 12 year-olds. HHS Secretary at the time, Katherine Sebelius wouldn’t intervene, callously responding with “someone lives and someone dies.” Socialism stinks, don’t you know?

If you remember back when, the liberal Leftist DemoMarxists also ridiculed Sarah Palin when she warned about death panels, while they were hiding their dirty little secret of what became known as the QALY system, defined as:

“The quality-adjusted life year or quality-adjusted life-year (QALY) is a generic measure of disease burden, including both the quality and the quantity of life lived. It is used in economic evaluation to assess the value for money of medical interventions. One QALY equates to one year in perfect health.”

Talk about bureaucracy-speak and bureaucratic gobbledy-gook!

If we can’t exorcise ourselves from the lies of the ACA germinated by the Liar-in-Thief Barack Hussein Obama himself, then we too will experience the lie that ‘socialism is progress.’  After all, “if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.”

Right then.

People won’t die if the Republicans repeal Obamacare. People will die in perpetuity however, when socialist bureaucrats are in charge of our lives. If only Maggie Thatcher had served her country as long as Queen Elizabeth has, the UK and its burdensome NHS (National Health Service, what else?) wouldn’t be such a swamp of socialism.

I’m sure the European Court of Human Rights could cite “fairness” as a criteria. Would it be fair for Charlie to come to America, or go home, when others could not? The Court of Human Rights – Human Rights for goodness’ sake! The Left destroys everything, including both language and healthcare options.

Socialism stinks.

Lloyd Billingsley in FrontPageMagazine…

The European Court of Human Rights has ruled against Chris Gard and Connie Yates of the United Kingdom, whose 10-month-old child Charlie Gard will be “allowed to die,” a decision supposedly “in his own best interest,” as a British judge put it. According to a timeline in the Daily Mail, here is how Charlie’s story has played out.

Charlie Gard was born a healthy baby on August 4, 2016, but at eight months the child was diagnosed with mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome, which causes progressive muscle weakness and brain damage. Charlie began to lose weight but in January 2017 his mother Connie Yates found an American doctor willing to offer Charlie a trial therapy called nucleoside.

Connie set up a website and succeeded in raising enough money to cover Charlie’s travel to America by air ambulance and the cost of the experimental treatment. But then the British legal system handed Charlie a setback.

On April 3, 2017, a High Court judge questioned whether Connie and Chris should be allowed to take Charlie to America for treatment, and whether doctors at the Great Ormond Street Hospital should turn off the baby’s life-support system. On April 11, the court ruled that the doctors were in fact permitted to do so.

The decision devastated parents Connie and Chris, from Bedfont in west London and both in their thirties. They vowed to appeal and in late April, more than 110,000 people signed a petition for Prime Minister Theresa May to release Charlie from hospital so he could travel to the United States for treatment. Charlie remained in hospital and on May 25, three Court of Appeal judges ruled that doctors should end Charlie’s life-support treatment.

Connie and Chris appealed but on June 8, three judges of the Supreme Court rejected their bid but told doctors to keep Charlie on life support for another day so the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, France, could consider the child’s case. On June 13 the ECHR ruled that Charlie should be kept on life support until Monday June 19. On June 27, the European court rejected the parents’ plea to intervene in the case of Charlie Gard.

As the ECHR statement put it: “Today the European Court of Human Rights has by a majority endorsed in substance the approach by the domestic courts and thus declared the application inadmissible. The decision is final.”

According to a report by Sophie Jamieson in the Telegraph, “terminally ill baby Charlie Gard will be allowed to die after his parents lost their final legal bid to take him to the USA for specialist treatment.”

A spokesman for the Great Ormond Street Hospital acknowledged that the verdict was “very distressing for them” and promised “every possible support.” The hospital would be in “no rush” to change Charlie’s care and “any future treatment plans will involve careful planning and discussion.”

So there you have it folks, the tyrants win another one, part and parcel of the globalist agenda if you will. The fact that President Trump has offered help to the family will likely set off yet another round of Big Media angst and attacks upon his management, manhood, and statehood.

The denial of the power of a citizen to opt out of some aspect of the system is one of the hallmarks of a collectivist society that is going authoritarian. Eric Arthur Blair, otherwise known as George Orwell, dwelt extensivley on this behavior in his 1984, which is why it has been a consistent best seller since its publication in 1948/49.

In any event, it’s a bad precedent – and bad optics – for the UK to allow one of their ‘subjects’ to escape their tyrannical jurisdiction. Next thing you know, their subjects would be looking elsewhere for medical care instead of being ‘waited’ to death by the NHS.

Catchy justification: death was in the baby’s best interests. Couldn’t that be said of that other medical freak they worship, Stephen Hawking?

Like I already stated above – Socialism stinks.
